Our focus is to keep school children safe from hazardous pesticides that cause harm to children. We are calling for policies to be enacted by the County Ag Commissioners and the Department of Pesticide Regulation. We hope to inform the people in the Monterey Bay region about the issues of pesticide so together we can make change and keep schoolchildren safe.
The Monterey Bay area has become ground zero for the use of toxic pesticides with the largest proportion of schoolchildren in proximity to the fields where dangerous pesticides are applied. These toxins are extremely dangerous as they affect children’s early childhood development. They can also affect reproductive functions in adults, resulting in infertility, miscarriages, and prematurity. Even being exposed to low levels of carcinogens in fumigants for a long period of time can cause cancer. The lives of California workers and their families are already suffering the damage.
